In a remarkable display of power hitting, Tennessee’s junior utility player, Dalton Bargo, achieved a rare feat by belting two home runs in a single inning during the Volunteers’ commanding 29-4 victory over UNC Asheville on February 18, 2025, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. This offensive explosion matched the highest run total for Tennessee in the Tony Vitello era, equaling the 29 runs scored against Iona on February 26, 2022.<\/p>\n

The pivotal moment occurred in the bottom of the second inning. After UNC Asheville had taken a 3-1 lead in the top half, Bargo led off the inning with a solo home run to right-center field, narrowing the deficit. Later that inning, with the bases loaded, he delivered a grand slam over the center-field wall, propelling Tennessee to a 9-3 advantage. This impressive performance made Bargo only the third player in Volunteers’ history to hit two home runs in a single inning, joining the ranks of Kelly Edmundson (2006 vs. Belmont) and Sonny Cortez (1998 vs. NC State).<\/p>\n

Bargo’s achievement was part of a broader offensive surge, as Tennessee’s lineup combined for five home runs in the game.
