Campo’s Corner: The old Josh Dugan during his time with Canberra …<\/p>\n

Back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, there were few players in the NRL more exciting with the ball in hand than Josh Dugan in lime green. From the moment he debuted for the Canberra Raiders in 2009, Dugan\u2019s raw athleticism, evasive running, and fearlessness under the high ball made him a fan favourite \u2014 and a nightmare for opposing defences.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

David Campese \u2014 a rugby league commentator known for his honest takes \u2014 often praised \u201cthe old Dugan\u201d as one of the best broken-play runners in the game at the time. Campo frequently noted that Dugan’s style reminded him of old-school fullbacks: instinctive, unpolished in the best way, and capable of turning nothing into something.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just his highlight reels that earned him attention. Dugan was Canberra\u2019s X-factor, often carrying the side in key moments during a period when the club was struggling for consistency. He made the NSW Origin team in 2011, showcasing his value at the highest level.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, his time in Canberra ended in controversy \u2014 a falling out with club management and off-field issues saw him shown the door in 2013. Campo, among others, lamented the loss of such rare talent, noting that while Dugan\u2019s potential was undeniable, his maturity hadn\u2019t yet caught up with his footballing gifts.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Still, for many Raiders fans \u2014 and for Campo \u2014 the memory of the young, electric Josh Dugan in a Canberra jersey remains a highlight of that era.<\/p>\n
