The Montreal Canadiens have bolstered their goaltending depth by signing veteran netminder Ben Scrivens, who previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Scrivens, 38, has an extensive NHL career, including stints with the Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and Edmonton Oilers. Notably, he set an NHL record in 2014 by stopping 59 shots in a shutout victory against the San Jose Sharks. After retiring from professional play in 2018, Scrivens has transitioned to coaching, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the Canadiens’ organization.
In a related move, the Canadiens have signed goaltender Luke Cavallin to a one-year, two-way AHL contract with their affiliate, the Laval Rocket. Cavallin, 23, spent the previous season with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, making nine appearances with the Toronto Marlies and 24 with the Newfoundland Growlers. His performance includes a 20-8-3 record in the ECHL, with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. This acquisition provides Cavallin with an opportunity to further his development within the Canadiens’ system.
