Penn State Wrestling is grappling with significant setbacks as two key wrestlers are sidelined due to injuries.

Aaron Nagao, a former All-American from Minnesota who transferred to Penn State ahead of the 2023–24 season, underwent major surgery following an injury sustained last spring. Head coach Cael Sanderson confirmed that Nagao “won’t be back anytime soon,” emphasizing the importance of prioritizing his long-term health over a rushed return citeturn0search1.

In addition, 149-pounder Shayne Van Ness, who earned All-American honors last season, will miss the remainder of the season due to an undisclosed injury. Coach Sanderson stated that Van Ness “had issues with something” that worsened during practice, necessitating surgery and a focus on recovery for the upcoming year citeturn0search3.

These injuries have prompted lineup adjustments. Braeden Davis, a former Big Ten champion at 125 pounds, has stepped in at 133 pounds, winning his debut match against Drexel’s Kyle Waterman. However, Davis is also managing a knee issue, and his participation in upcoming tournaments remains uncertain citeturn0search6.
