Welcome Back: Minnesota Vikings former star, Kirk Cousins return back to Vikings few minutes ago… See Details

In a stunning turn of events, quarterback Kirk Cousins has rejoined the Minnesota Vikings, just months after departing for the Atlanta Falcons. The 36-year-old signal-caller, who spent six seasons in Minnesota, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Vikings, marking his return to the team that drafted him in 2012.

Cousins’ departure from the Vikings in March 2024 was marked by mixed emotions from fans and teammates alike. Despite his impressive statistics—averaging nearly 3,900 passing yards and 28.5 touchdowns per season—his tenure was also characterized by playoff disappointments. The Vikings ultimately chose not to meet his contract demands, leading him to sign a four-year, $180 million deal with the Falcons. However, Cousins’ time in Atlanta was tumultuous, with the team drafting rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and Cousins struggling to maintain his starting role.

Now back in Minnesota, Cousins faces a new challenge. The Vikings have a promising young quarterback in J.J. McCarthy, who showed potential during the previous season. Cousins will need to prove himself once again to earn the starting position.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed optimism about the reunion, stating, “Kirk’s experience and leadership are invaluable assets to our team. We’re excited to see how he can contribute to our success moving forward.”

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on the quarterback competition in Minnesota. Will Cousins reclaim his former role, or will McCarthy’s development lead to a changing of the guard? Only time will tell.
