In a landmark gesture of enduring loyalty, Texas Tech basketball legend Bubba Jennings has donated $18.2 million to support head coach Grant McCasland’s vision for a new stadium project . This substantial contribution underscores Jennings’ deep-rooted commitment to the Red Raiders, a program he helped define during his standout collegiate career from 1980 to 1985.

Jennings, a Clovis, New Mexico native, was a dynamic guard who averaged 15 points per game across his college career, peaking at 19.5 points per game as a senior. Despite playing before the introduction of the three-point line, he remains ninth in Texas Tech history with 1,760 points. His accolades include the 1985 Southwest Conference Player of the Year and the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, honoring the nation’s top player under six feet tall .
The donation comes at a pivotal moment for the Red Raiders. Under Coach McCasland, the team has achieved a 51–20 record over two seasons, including two NCAA Tournament appearances and a recent Elite Eight run. The team also set program records for total points, made three-pointers, and Big 12 road wins, finishing second in the conference with a 15–5 record .
Jennings’ gift is expected to accelerate plans for a new stadium, enhancing the program’s facilities and recruiting appeal. His recent induction into Texas Tech’s Ring of Honor, alongside fellow legend Jason Sasser, further cements his legacy within the university’s storied basketball history .
This donation not only honors the past but also invests in the future, ensuring that Red Raiders pride continues to thrive for generations to come.
