ESPN REPORT – Former LSU Tigers women’s basketball star Sylvia Fowles, a three-time WNBA champion and two-time league MVP, has made history with a monumental $19.1 million investment in her alma mater. The pledge marks one of the largest contributions ever by a former female college athlete and will significantly benefit the LSU women’s basketball program.

Fowles, known for her dominant post play and leadership both at LSU and in the WNBA, said the donation reflects her deep gratitude and commitment to empowering future generations of female athletes. The funds will go toward scholarships, facilities, mentorship programs, and enhanced recruitment efforts, reinforcing LSU’s position as a powerhouse in women’s basketball.

“I want young women to have the resources, support, and belief in themselves that I was fortunate to receive,” Fowles stated. “This is about giving back and building a legacy that lasts far beyond the court.”

LSU Athletics Director Scott Woodward praised Fowles’ generosity, calling it “a transformative gift that will echo through LSU history.”

Fowles played at LSU from 2004 to 2008, helping lead the Tigers to four straight Final Four appearances. Her legacy continues to grow—this time, as a game-changing philanthropist.
