Iconic Kyle Larson quest to run Indy 500, Coke begins, but will it be his last attempt?

Kyle Larson’s quest to conquer the legendary “Double” — competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day — resumes in 2025. After his highly anticipated 2024 attempt was derailed by weather and a pit road penalty, Larson is determined to complete the grueling 1,100-mile challenge this year.

 

Last May, Larson impressed at Indianapolis, qualifying fifth and running near the front before a speeding penalty set him back to an 18th-place finish. He made it to Charlotte in time for the Coke 600, but the race was rained out before he could turn a lap. Despite the disappointment, Larson gained valuable experience, which he and his teams at Arrow McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports hope to build on in this year’s attempt.

 

While Larson has not definitively stated whether this will be his last try at the Double, the immense logistical and physical challenges raise the question. For now, he remains focused on seizing the rare opportunity to etch his name into motorsports history.
