CHICAGO — A Chicago man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl aboard a Purple Line train Saturday evening. Authorities say the incident occurred while the train was in motion, prompting a swift investigation by the Chicago Police Department and transit officials.

According to prosecutors, the girl was riding the train alone when the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, approached her and assaulted her during the ride. The victim managed to alert authorities shortly after the incident, and the suspect was apprehended near the Howard Street station. Surveillance footage from the train played a key role in identifying and locating the individual.
The man now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated criminal sexual assault. He remains in custody without bail as prosecutors argue he poses a flight risk and a danger to the public.
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) released a statement condemning the violence and affirming its commitment to passenger safety. “We are working closely with law enforcement and reviewing security protocols to prevent future incidents,” the statement read.
The victim is receiving medical and emotional support. The case remains under investigation.
