Chicago man gets 88 years in prison for sexually assaulting suburban Hyatt employee at gunpoint…
In a harrowing case that underscores the severity of sexual violence, Julius Ramsey, a 41-year-old Chicago man, has been sentenced to 88 years in prison for the brutal assault of a hotel employee in Oak Brook, Illinois.

On September 9, 2019, Ramsey confronted a female employee at the Hyatt House hotel on 22nd Street. At gunpoint, he forced her into a vacant room where he sexually assaulted her multiple times, threatened her life, and held her captive. The victim managed to escape and promptly reported the assault to the police. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for medical attention.
The investigation led authorities to a firearm in a hotel room rented by Ramsey, matching the victim’s description. DNA evidence collected from the victim also matched Ramsey’s DNA. He voluntarily turned himself in to the Oak Brook Police Department on September 12 and was arrested the following day.
In May 2021, after a three-day trial, Ramsey was found guilty of three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a firearm, one count of aggravated kidnapping with a firearm, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. On October 27, 2023, he was sentenced to 22 years for each of the three aggravated criminal sexual assault charges and the aggravated kidnapping charge, to be served consecutively. An additional seven-year sentence for the aggravated criminal sexual abuse charge was also imposed, to be served consecutively, totaling 88 years. He is required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commended the victim’s courage, stating, “Her testimony in open court was largely responsible for putting Mr. Ramsey behind bars for what amounts to the rest of his life, and for that I commend her.”
This case highlights the importance of swift justice and the resilience of survivors in the face of traumatic experiences.
