Freshman designated player Lauren Putz has been named the 2025 Softball America Player of the Year, capping a standout debut season for the Michigan Wolverines. Putz led the team with a .424 batting average and 10 home runs, contributing 33 RBIs over 32 games . Her performance was instrumental in Michigan’s 39–21 season and their Big Ten tournament championship .
Putz’s accolades are part of a broader recognition for the Wolverines, with four players earning All-America honors. Senior pitcher Lauren Derkowski, with a 1.71 ERA over 98.1 innings , and sophomore outfielder Ella Stephenson, a second-team All-Big Ten selection , were among those honored. Putz’s exceptional freshman season also earned her a spot among the Top 25 Finalists for the 2025 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award .
