Baton Rouge, LA – One of college basketball’s most legendary figures, Pete Maravich, is once again making headlines decades after his iconic run with the LSU Tigers from 1968 to 1970. Known for his unmatched scoring ability, dazzling ball-handling, and creative flair, Maravich remains the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer with 3,667 points—a record set without the benefit of the three-point line or shot clock.

Today, ESPN has learned that Maravich is being posthumously inducted into the National College Basketball Hall of Fame Legends Circle, a new honor recognizing transformative impact on the college game. Officials cite not only his historic stats but also his influence on generations of players.

Dubbed “Pistol Pete,” Maravich averaged an astonishing 44.2 points per game over three varsity seasons, a feat that remains untouched. His showmanship and passion for the game helped elevate LSU basketball to national prominence.

Though he tragically passed away in 1988 at the age of 40, his legacy lives on—etched in hardwood lore, LSU tradition, and now this prestigious recognition. For fans and basketball historians alike, Pete Maravich remains a symbol of unfiltered talent and pure love for the game.
