Insider Shares Latest Update on Canucks Goalie Thatcher Demko, Future in Vancouver

Vancouver Canucks star goaltender Thatcher Demko remains a central figure in the team’s future plans, according to the latest insider reports. Despite some speculation surrounding his long-term status following his injury during the 2024 playoffs, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Canucks have “zero intention” of moving on from Demko. The 28-year-old netminder has been a key piece for Vancouver, posting elite numbers throughout the regular season before being sidelined during the postseason.

Friedman added that the team remains confident in Demko’s recovery and expects him to be fully healthy for training camp. With two years remaining on his current contract at a team-friendly $5 million AAV, Demko is seen as one of the best value goaltenders in the league.

The Canucks are reportedly looking to build around their current core, and Demko remains a pillar of that foundation alongside Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson. While Vancouver will still look to shore up its depth in net following Demko’s absence in the playoffs, the team believes he remains their best chance at long-term success. For now, fans can expect Demko to stay in Vancouver.
