Top Canucks goalie prospect on the cusp of making AHL history…

Vancouver Canucks goaltending prospect Nikita Tolopilo is making waves in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks. The 24-year-old Belarusian recently achieved a significant milestone by recording back-to-back shutouts against the Manitoba Moose, marking the first such feat in Abbotsford Canucks history. Over those two games, Tolopilo stopped all 42 shots he faced, securing 4-0 and 3-0 victories .

Tolopilo’s performance is particularly noteworthy given the Canucks’ current goaltending situation. With NHL starter Thatcher Demko sidelined due to a lower-body injury , the organization has been relying on depth from their AHL affiliates. Tolopilo, who signed a two-year entry-level contract with Vancouver in May 2023 , has stepped up impressively, showcasing his potential as a future NHL goaltender.

Standing at 6’6″ and weighing 229 pounds, Tolopilo combines size with composure in the crease. His recent performances have not only set franchise records but also highlighted his readiness for higher-level competition. As the Canucks navigate their goaltending challenges, Tolopilo’s emergence offers a promising glimpse into the team’s future between the pipes.
