Ryan Williams recognises the “frontrunner” in the quarterback competition for Alabama football….

Alabama’s quarterback competition for the 2025 season remains open, with no definitive frontrunner yet. Wide receiver Ryan Williams has been working with all three contenders—Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell—during spring practices to build chemistry and assess each quarterback’s style. Simpson, a redshirt junior, is considered the favorite due to his experience and understanding of the offense, but he must demonstrate greater consistency to secure the starting role. Mack, a transfer from Washington, brings impressive physical tools but lacks significant game experience. Russell, a true freshman, offers dual-threat capabilities and high potential but faces the challenge of adapting to the college game’s speed and complexity.

Williams, who led Alabama in receiving yards and touchdowns as a 17-year-old freshman, is expected to have an expanded role in the offense this season. Head coach Kalen DeBoer has hinted at utilizing Williams more in the slot position, taking advantage of his versatility and playmaking ability.

The quarterback battle is anticipated to continue through the summer, with the coaching staff closely evaluating each player’s performance and leadership qualities. Williams’ adaptability and rapport with all three quarterbacks will be crucial in the development of Alabama’s offense for the upcoming season.
