In a postgame interview, Pavia expressed his frustration over what he described as Alabama players’ disrespect during the pregame coin toss. He claimed that Alabama’s captains underestimated Vanderbilt, treating them as if they were an FCS team. Pavia stated, “They were talking crazy… They thought they were going to come in here and treat us like we were an FCS team. We were like, ‘What? Oh, you must not know.’ You know what I mean? ‘Alright, we’re going to see.'”
His animated postgame interview further fueled controversy. Overcome with emotion, Pavia exclaimed, “Vandy, we’re f*****g turnt,” during a live broadcast.
