After being shot, Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster died at the age of 18….

 

Baylor University and Greenville, Mississippi, were rocked on May 28, 2025, when freshman defensive lineman Alex Foster was fatally shot. At just 18 years old and standing 6′5″ at 292 lb, Foster was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a vehicle shortly after midnight in his hometown and died about 35 minutes later at Delta Health Center .

A highly touted recruit—ranked No. 152 nationally by On3—Foster had redshirted his freshman season in 2024, attended spring workouts, and planned to return to Baylor after his summer break . Greenville, already grappling with violent crime, declared a state of emergency and imposed a citywide curfew in response .

 

Baylor’s head coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades expressed profound grief, calling Foster “a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family,” and offered support to his loved ones . St. Joseph Catholic High—his former school—remembered him as soft‑spoken, determined, and well-grounded .

 

No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation remains ongoing amid calls for greater community safety .
