Ricky Stuart reveals player decisions behind selection calls in Tigers win…

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has opened up about the selection decisions that played a crucial role in their gritty win over the Wests Tigers. Stuart, known for his emotional and tactical coaching style, revealed that some of the key changes to his lineup were driven by recent form, team chemistry, and the need for defensive stability.

One of the standout decisions was the inclusion of young forward Ata Mariota, who brought renewed energy and physicality off the bench. “Ata’s been working really hard at training. He deserved his shot, and I think he proved why tonight,” Stuart said. The coach also backed Jamal Fogarty’s leadership and praised his composure in guiding the team around the park during tight moments.

Stuart admitted that a few veteran players were left out to give younger talents more responsibility and game time. “Sometimes you’ve got to back your gut and trust what the boys are showing you during the week,” he added.

The 20-19 victory over the Tigers snapped a short losing streak and gave the Raiders a much-needed confidence boost. With a tough schedule ahead, Stuart hinted that selection calls will continue to be performance-based, rewarding consistency and hunger over experience.
