Rugby League Legend Makes Stunning Origin Call on ‘Sharp’ Raiders Rookie

Rugby league icon Laurie Daley has sparked massive debate after backing Canberra Raiders rookie Jed Stuart for a shock State of Origin debut, calling the young playmaker “sharp, fearless, and ready.” The former New South Wales captain made the bold claim on SEN Radio, praising Stuart’s poise and impact since making his NRL debut earlier this month.

“He’s got the temperament. He’s not overawed, and he’s already playing like a seasoned pro,” Daley said. “If there’s an injury or we need spark off the bench, don’t be surprised if Stuart’s name is thrown up.”

Stuart, just 19, has turned heads with his electric pace, defensive grit, and smart game management. He was instrumental in the Raiders’ recent win over the Tigers, earning praise from coach Ricky Stuart — no relation — for his maturity under pressure.

While some believe Origin may be too soon, others think his rapid rise mirrors that of legends like Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns, who debuted young and thrived.

With Game III selections looming and NSW facing a dead rubber, Stuart’s name could very well be in the mix as a wildcard option. One thing is certain — his star is rising fast.
