Champions League manager has “personally requested” to sign £38m Man Utd star amid interest in Liverpool….

Manchester United have reportedly personally requested to sign Wolves midfielder João Gomes in a deal around £38 million, according to Football365 . With PSG asking around €60 million for their top target Manuel Ugarte, United have cooled interest in Ugarte and pivoted toward Gomes, whom they view as a more realistic midfield solution .

Transfer fee Approximately £38 million (€44 million) being discussed .

Position & style A defensive/midfield anchor with solid performances at Wolves, and reportedly also targeted by Chelsea .

Context at United Ruben Amorim appears to want a dynamic midfield core. Gomes appears next in line after PSG didn’t budge on Ugarte. United seem to apply a strict value-based approach .

Interestingly, United’s move for Gomes comes amid interest from Liverpool, who are also exploring midfield reinforcements this summer . That said, Liverpool’s primary midfield target seems to be Ederson from Atalanta (valued at ~£38–42 m), who is preferred by new manager Arne Slot . So, even though BOTH clubs are eyeing midfield additions near that price range, they’re chasing different profiles.

Manchester United are making a serious push to sign Wolves’ João Gomes for around £38 million, shifting focus away from the pricier Ugarte. While Liverpool are active in the midfield market nearby, their primary focus is on Atalanta’s Ederson under Arne Slot — meaning both Premier League giants are strengthening, but via distinct paths.

Let me know if you’d like more details on Gomes’s playing style, how he compares to Ugarte/Ederson, or what United’s midfield could look like with him!
