BREAKING NEWS: Tyrese Haliburton Donates $20 Million to Honor Pacers Legend Mel Daniels
In an extraordinary gesture of respect and legacy, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has donated a staggering $20 million to honor franchise icon Mel Daniels. The donation, one of the largest ever made by an active NBA player to a team’s historical figure, will go toward the creation of the Mel Daniels Legacy Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to youth development, basketball education, and community outreach in Indianapolis.
Haliburton, who has quickly become the face of the Pacers, said the move is about “preserving greatness” and “inspiring the next generation.” The center will feature a museum showcasing Daniels’ legendary ABA and NBA career, as well as programs to support underserved youth—an initiative close to Daniels’ heart.
Mel Daniels, a two-time ABA MVP and a cornerstone of the Pacers’ championship dynasty in the 1970s, passed away in 2015 but remains one of the most revered figures in Indiana basketball history.
“This isn’t just about basketball. It’s about values, leadership, and the impact Mel had on this community,” Haliburton stated.
The project is set to break ground later this year, marking a powerful tribute to a legend—and a rising star’s commitment to legacy.
