End of an Era: Sea Eagles Favourite forward Bows Out with Surprise Retirement…
Michael Chee-Kam Announces Retirement After Decade-Long NRL Career
Former Manly Sea Eagles forward Michael Chee-Kam has officially announced his retirement from professional rugby league, bringing to a close a career spanning over a decade and three NRL clubs.
Chee-Kam, 33, was one of nine players confirmed to be leaving the Sea Eagles at the end of the 2025 season. While he made just one NRL appearance for Manly this year, his overall contribution to the game has been significant. Debuting in 2014, the Auckland-born forward amassed 133 NRL appearances during stints with the Sea Eagles, Wests Tigers, and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
In a heartfelt social media post, Chee-Kam reflected on his journey, expressing gratitude to his faith, family, teammates, and the clubs he represented.

> “None of it would’ve been possible without my Lord and Saviour … Footy’s footy, but what I’ll miss most is the banter and the laughs every single day with the boys,” he wrote.
Chee-Kam also acknowledged how rugby league allowed him to travel the world, build a family, and form lifelong friendships.
His retirement marks the end of a respected career defined by resilience, versatility, and a deep love for the game. As Manly prepares for a major squad overhaul in 2026, Chee-Kam exits the sport with his head held high.
