For three years, 12-year-old Emma from Queanbeyan saved every coin she could find — collecting cans, baking cookies, even skipping birthday presents — all for one dream: to watch her beloved Canberra Raiders play live at GIO Stadium.
But when the day finally came, Emma found she was still short. Tickets, travel, and food were simply out of reach. Her story made its way to social media, where it quickly caught the attention of Raiders star Joseph Tapine.
Moved by her dedication, Tapine did more than just gift her tickets. Moments before the Raiders’ game against the Storm, Tapine walked Emma to the centre of the field, handed her a signed jersey, and announced she would be the team’s honorary mascot for the day. The stadium, packed with thousands, fell silent in awe — then burst into a roar of applause.
The emotional gesture didn’t stop there: Tapine also surprised Emma with a season pass and a personal invitation to train with the team.
A simple dream turned into an unforgettable moment, thanks to one act of kindness — and a little girl’s unwave
ring hope.
