“What I feel about the seven BTS guys,” said Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, “is that they have been—it seems, from knowing them a bit—made closer by that very intense process [of becoming stars].” Martin and Coldplay collaborated with BTS on the number one hit ‘My Universe.’ “I was really happy that it seemed like they had each other’s backs. They’re very tight, personally, and they intertwine well. They don’t tread on each other’s toes too much. There’s distinct roles…. The love between them is real. When Chris Martin talks about BTS, it’s not just industry praise — it’s personal admiration. Reflecting on their collaboration for the chart-topping single My Universe, the Coldplay frontman shared what struck him most about the seven-member group: their bond.

“What I feel about the seven BTS guys,” Martin said, “is that they have been — it seems, from knowing them a bit — made closer by that very intense process [of becoming stars].” Global fame can fracture relationships, but in BTS’s case, he observed the opposite. The pressures of superstardom appear to have strengthened their connection.

Martin described a group dynamic built on trust and balance. Each member holds a distinct role, avoiding ego clashes while supporting one another creatively and personally. “They’re very tight,” he explained. “They intertwine well. They don’t tread on each other’s toes too much.”

What left the deepest impression, however, was something less tangible: “The love between them is real. That was the most striking thing — love in a very intense situation.”

Now, as BTS reunite ahead of their fifth album for GQ’s global March cover story, that unity remains their greatest strength — and perhaps their secret weapon.
