Ed Sheeran has revealed that he hasn’t owned a mobile phone since 2015 — and the reason is surprisingly simple: peace of mind.
The Grammy-winning singer explained that constant messages, emails, and notifications were overwhelming him at the height of his fame. As his career skyrocketed, so did the pressure to be constantly available. Sheeran said he found himself replying to hundreds of messages a day, leaving him stressed and distracted from real-life moments.
In 2015, he decided to quit using a personal phone altogether. Instead, he switched to using email on a tablet, which he checks only occasionally. By doing so, he created boundaries between his work and personal life.
Sheeran has shared that giving up his phone significantly improved his mental health. He feels more present during conversations and more connected to the people physically around him. The decision also helps him focus on songwriting and creativity without constant digital interruptions.
While the move may seem extreme in today’s hyper-connected world, Sheeran says it’s one of the best decisions he’s ever made.
