Exclusive: On Sunday, the National Rugby League issued a breach notice to the Penrith Panthers proposing a $50,000 fine for the club and a five-match suspension for star halfback Nathan Cleary following an alleged breach of league conduct guidelines.

According to reports, the governing body launched an investigation earlier in the week after an incident believed to have taken place after Penrith’s recent match. The league claims the situation involved behavior that may have violated the NRL’s strict rules regarding player conduct and club responsibility.

In a statement released late Sunday, the NRL confirmed that a breach notice had been delivered to the Panthers outlining the proposed sanctions. The club now has the opportunity to respond before any final decision is made.

“The integrity of the competition and the standards expected of players and clubs remain a top priority,” the NRL said in the statement.

The Panthers acknowledged receipt of the notice and confirmed they are reviewing the matter internally. Club officials have not yet confirmed whether they will challenge the penalty or accept the proposed punishment.

If the suspension is upheld, Cleary could miss several key fixtures in the coming weeks, dealing a major blow to the Panthers’ campaign as they look to maintain their strong start to the season. Fans now await the club’s official response.
