Canucks re-sign veteran defenceman Derek For bort…
The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran defenseman Derek Forbort to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million, aiming to strengthen their blue line with his size, experience, and defensive acumen.

Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 216 pounds, Forbort is known for his physical play, shot-blocking, and penalty-killing abilities. He has accumulated 95 points (17 goals, 78 assists) and a +30 plus/minus rating over 496 NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, and Boston Bruins.
In the 2023–24 season with Boston, Forbort was limited to 35 games due to injuries but maintained a +8 rating and contributed four assists. He also participated in three playoff games, averaging nearly 18 minutes of ice time per game.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin highlighted Forbort’s addition as a move to enhance the team’s defensive depth and physical presence, especially following the departures of Ian Cole and Nikita Zadorov.
Forbort’s veteran presence is expected to provide stability and mentorship to the Canucks’ younger defensemen, contributing to a more balanced and resilient defensive unit.
