Raiders fullback, Dragons forward charged by MRC as two others escape sanction….

Canberra Raiders fullback Xavier Savage and St George Illawarra forward Blake Lawrie have both been charged by the NRL Match Review Committee following Saturday’s fiery clash.

Savage was hit with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge for a late shot on Dragons half Ben Hunt in the second half, drawing a fine of $1,000 with an early guilty plea. Lawrie, meanwhile, copped a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle charge after a swinging arm caught Raiders hooker Tom Starling. He faces a $1,500 fine if he accepts the early plea.

Two other incidents — involving a potential trip by Zac Lomax and a shoulder charge by Raiders centre Matt Timoko — were reviewed but not deemed worthy of charges.

Both Savage and Lawrie are free to play next week if they take the early guilty plea, offering relief to both clubs ahead of crucial Round 19 fixtures.
