St Helens stance on Josh Papalii deal clear as Canberra break silence on talks…..

St Helens have publicly maintained confidence that they’ve secured a two‑year deal for Canberra Raiders stalwart Josh Papali’i, reportedly aimed at covering the 2026–27 Super League seasons .

Sources suggest the club has held “constructive talks” with him over several months and are optimistic a contract will be signed .

However, Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner recently broke his silence, revealing that discussions with Papali’i—or his agent—could still resume later in the year, and re‑signing the club’s all‑time appearance record holder “is not out of the question” .

Agent Steve Gillis has been equally clear: no final decision has been made yet. He confirmed ongoing negotiations with the English side and indicated talks with Canberra may yet happen, but stressed it’s “still too early to forecast how it’s going to unravel” .

Meanwhile, fresh speculation has emerged suggesting Papali’i might remain in the NRL rather than head to the Super League. He is reportedly open to offers from rival NRL clubs, potentially complicating St Helens’ plans .

In summary: St Helens expect a deal, but Canberra haven’t given up. Papali’i’s future remains undecided—with options still very much alive in both the UK and Australia.
