An Indian-origin man in Melbourne has undergone emergency surgery after being brutally attacked with a machete.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Harsh Patel, was reportedly ambushed outside his workplace in the northern suburb of Reservoir. The assailant, yet to be identified, inflicted severe injuries, nearly severing Patel’s hand.
Surgeons at a Melbourne hospital managed to reattach the hand after a lengthy procedure.
Patel described the ordeal as “a fight to survive,” saying he raised his arms instinctively to shield himself. Victoria Police have launched an investigation and are treating the attack as a targeted assault.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and appealing to witnesses. The incident has sparked fear in the local community, with calls for increased safety measures in the area.
