“I can still find a way into the team”: Walters eyes comeback and new Canberra raiders contract…..

Veteran playmaker Sam Walters believes he still has what it takes to earn another shot in the NRL, declaring he can “still find a way into the team” as he targets a comeback with the Canberra Raiders.

After an injury-interrupted season that sidelined him for much of the campaign, Walters has returned to pre-season training with renewed focus and determination. The 29-year-old admitted the past year tested him mentally and physically, but says the setback has reignited his hunger to compete at the top level.

“I know there’s strong competition for spots, but I back myself,” Walters said. “If I do the work and stay consistent, I can still add value to this squad.”

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has welcomed Walters’ attitude, praising his leadership and experience around the younger halves coming through the system. While no contract extension has been finalised, discussions are reportedly ongoing, with the club weighing up depth options ahead of the new season.

Walters’ versatility across the backline could prove crucial as Canberra looks to rebound from a disappointing finish last year. For now, his focus remains simple: train hard, stay fit, and force selectors to take notice.
